Meet Lift for Life.com Model of the Month Carl Allen Matthews Jr, a modest athlete who lets his physique do the talking.

Carl entered the world of competitive bodybuilding in November of 2004 claiming the fifth place trophy in the men's heavyweight novice category. Few would have guessed that only a month prior, Carl had been involved in a near death accident.

History and circumstance had led Carl to believe that God was playing a major role in his life. He had survived not just one, but multiple near death experiences. He had overcome adversity, he had been delivered from addictions, and through it all, he still had his health.

These experiences built not only character, but a deep and abiding faith in God.

"I thank Him every day for the changes I've gone through and the changes I'm going through all which are making me a better human being and person. I've really learned how to forgive unconditionally and it is a wonderful thing."

The following April at the NPA Virginia State Championships, Carl claimed the Master's title, Men's open and overall in both categories. As if to punctuate this victory, Carl also walked away with the Best Poser award.

He had arrived!

Following this victory, Carl embarked on a series of competitive events that would have left an endurance athlete gasping for breath. He trained with intensify, he dieted with only goals in mind, he built a stack of trophies, and though it all, he gave thanks to God.

Now with over 20 competitions behind him, Carl seems to be an unstoppable juggernaut destined to win a Pro card.
