Bodybuilder Jeff MarLett

My name is Jeff MarLett; I live in Doral, Florida and train at LA Fitness.  I am 34 years old and have been lifting weights on and off ever since high school.  In 2007 I decided to get serious about it and enter my first bodybuilding competition.  I competed in the NGA Florida Natural Championships.  I won the overall Novice Division.  After that competition I decided I was hooked and wanted to keep competing in bodybuilding.  This year I competed in the 2008 NGA American International Championships and won first place in the Open Light heavyweight Division and the Open Overall earning my NGA Pro Card.  I look forward to making my pro debut in 2009.

My training philosophy is train heavy and constantly add variations to my workouts.  I have found for me that I get the most muscle growth when I train heavy.  I always try to change some aspect of my workouts so my body never adapts to always doing the same thing.  I change rest periods, exercises, reps, or add supersets and drop sets.   I usually use a five day split consisting of Day 1 Chest, Day 2 Back, Day 3 Arms, Day 4 Off, Day 5 Quads and Calves, Day 6 Shoulders and Hamstrings, Day 7 Off.  Off-season I concentrate on basic compound exercises.  During my contest prep, I add more isolation exercises to my training.

My off-season weight is 225-230 and my competition weight is 185.

Pre Contest my dieting usually starts about 16 weeks out from the competition.  I eat high protein, moderate carbs and low fat.  The closer I get to the competition, my carbs get lower and I start carb cycling. Off season my diet isn’t quite as strict.  I increase the carbs since I am always trying to build more muscle for the next competition season.

Competition History:

2007 NGA Florida Natural Championships - 1st Place Novice Overall

2007 NPC South Florida - 4th Place Open Middleweight

2008 NPC All Forces National Military Bodybuilding, Fitness & Figure Championships - 4th Place Open Light heavyweight

2008 NGA American International Championships - 1st Place Open Light heavyweight, Open Overall Winner
