Athlete Profile: Jim Siem

My name is Jim Siem - I am the youngest of 7 kids born and raised in a town of 2,000 people on the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.  I spent 8 wonderful years in Southern California and returned to the Midwest in 1996.  I am currently single, living in St. Paul, MN and train at Life Time Fitness - Woodbury, MN

Stats - 44 years old, 5'7", off season weight is 180, competitive weight 165.

I've been competing for 3 years and have done 5 shows.  I've placed 1st 7 times, 2nd, 3 times, 3rd once, and 5th once.  My claim to fame is I've placed 1st in Sub Masters in 3 states - Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.  My goal is to obtain my Masters Pro Card.

Favorite exercise is lat pulldown - love the feeling of being wide!!

Favorite Body part to train is legs.  I use to hate them but now they are becoming a strength.

Training philosophy - train heavy and slow but if you don't eat right..............forget it.  Diet is a huge part of the game!!!

When I'm not competing you can find me on the golf course, a stream fly fishing or spending time with family and friends.

Short article - After obtaining my Pro Card I'd love to start judging and working with younger kids that want to compete naturally.  I see so many kids that have great potential but do not have a good understanding of diet or posing.  I'd love to give back to the sport that has given me a new outlook on life in so many ways.
