Health & Fitness

How I Started
I've always been into fitness however I noticed that I was drinking too much and too often at the age of 39. I quit cold turkey and began weight training 3 times a day (extreme) as a means of transferring one obsession to another. After awhile I modified my training into once a day and got my diet under control. Before long people began to ask if I competed. After I heard this enough, I thought, "why not?".
I did my first competition at the age of 41 and won my class.
This launched me into several additional competitions which were eventually curtailed by a string of injuries which has curtailed my heavy lifting.
Oh well, its been a great ride which I continue to enjoy.
What Motivates Me
Seeing people who are out of shape at any age.
Goals
Improve cardio (spend far too much time in front of the computer). Drop about 5% bf.
Accomplishments
Began competitive bodybuilding at age 41. Won several events and then began training in full contact fighting under UFC legend Dan "The Beast" Severn.

Sorry about the achy knees,,, but it can't be as bad as a few years ago when you blew them both out. Very inspirational to see how you came back from that injury!

for all the folks viewing this journal... clearly I'm a strength lifter, not a bodybuilder... I've done lots of workouts, and aiming to change again the first time I squat 500 and bench 375... I'd take some ideas, if you're willing to share... I need the total reps kept at less than 35, not counting anything at or under 185 as a repetition... those are just warmups...

help Me out here folks... to gain strength, what's workin for the folks on these forums...??

Well,,, a series of injuries conspired to change my lifting habits and frankly I can't tell you how much I miss lifting heavy. At a body weight between 215 to 220 I was benching 405 and taking 500 deep on the squat.

For the bench I really feel that heavy dumbbell press's taken below the plane of the chest were very helpful in building strength from the bottom of the lift. For squats I felt that heavy incline leg press also taken to full compression were helpful also.

Glad to see that you have made progress toward your weight loss goal!!!

    700 Swings,,,,, Wow!!!!!

By the way,,, my wife finally picked up one of those foam rollers that you have been speaking about for a long time,,, really likes it so far. We're both hoping that it will help with her back pain. Definitely worth a try!
